W.O. Woods served as Treasurer of the United States during the height of the depression, from January 1929 through May 1933. An extremely rare countersignature, it has been discovered on less than a handful of 1928 $1 Legal Tender notes.
However, its presence on a $10 Gold Certificate is likely a singular event and as such would qualify this note as the cherished centerpiece of the finest of autograph collections.
The signature is bold and crisp and written in a size and style that conveys both discipline and decorum. It was likely written quickly, but in a manner surprisingly similar to the printed version, conveying to the observer a core sense of confidence that was generations in the making.
