Featured here is a 2001 Serial #10 note with the hard-to-fine ‘A’ suffix. Normally, the BEP does not issue for circulation any note numbered under 301 that has the ‘A’ suffix.

The BEP considers ‘A’ suffix notes to be the official first notes for that District and denomination. The policy of not releasing these notes is occasionally broached, but remains the exception to the rule.
