Every once in a while, a distinctly fresh and vivacious starlet will surface in Hollywood. Before you know it, the top talent scouts, who rely on their own personal savvy and acumen to succeed, are eagerly courting this lovely damsel. These talent scouts have undoubtedly seen thousands of aspiring starlets come and go, but they remain at the top of the talent game because they are able to consistently identify the truly exceptional.

That brings us to The Paper Clip Note that sits before you.

One look at it and it’s clear that this is not your ordinary error. A few more looks and you realize that you’ve never before seen anything like it.

According to Steve Sullivan’s U.S. Error Note Encyclopedia, this note and a companion note with a similar serial number, represent the ONLY two examples in which a recognizable foreign object is completed inked and stamped (resulting in the object being embossed) onto a piece of United States currency. The result, according to Mr. Sullivan, is that the “raised impression of the Paper Clip has been inked” making the Paper Clip appear to be “part of the face plate design.”

With this note surfacing as he was preparing the 2nd Edition of his book, Mr. Sullivan felt it was sufficiently unique to require its own category. As such, it is listed in a separate and distinct category called Obstructed Plate, which is part of the broader group of Process Errors.

Process Errors, which include notes such as Double Denominations, Mixed Denominations, Wrong Overprints, and Test Note Errors are considered to be among the rarest and most desirable of all error notes. These notes are valued in his Encyclopedia at upwards of $40,000.

Regarding rarity, Mr. Sullivan has assigned The Paper Clip Note a class rarity rating of R9, the highest possible rating.

Opportunity is knocking. A sexy new starlet is in town.

Like a top talent scout, this note will appeal to those with a keen appreciation for what it takes to be a star.

If you want to be known as the owner of The Paper Clip Note and for the ability to spot the exceptional, now is the time to act.
