2001 $50 Richmond Star CE00000987* -Top Pop- PCGS 68 PPQ
Price: $1000
A truly exceptional example of the BEP Special issue 2001 $50 Richmond Star.
First off, it is a PCGS Top Pop. Out of a total of 164 notes (Fr. 2127E*) graded by PCGS, only 3 are graded PCGS-68 PPQ with NONE higher.
Since these notes were issued in holders that held the notes at each of the four corners, it was not uncommon for the corners to be subject to crease marks or handling.
Thus out of 164 graded, only 3 were able to earn the PCGS 68 PPQ grade.
PCGS defines this grade as follows:
“A “68” is basically as nice and as close to perfection as a “69”, but a minor fault may be present, including a tiny handling mark, an edge bump, or a very small counting crinkle. Otherwise, a “68” will be flawless, with excellent centering, bold colors, excellent eye appeal, and full originality.
Despite the mention here of trivial flaws, one should remember that a “68” is an essentially perfect note. It is the highest grade that can reasonably be expected for many series, including most large size type notes.”
In addition, this 3-digit down ladder example represents one of the select few fancy-numbered notes available for this Special Issue.
All-in-all, a beautiful and rare note, worthy of being considered one of the most appealing notes out of all 3700 printed by the BEP.
