2003A $2 Double Lucky Money Set

First offered for sale on January 22, 2008, this unique set sold out within a few days.

As the BEP reported,“this set features, for the first time ever, two crisp uncirculated $2 notes, with serial numbers beginning with ‘8888’, to symbolize good fortune and ‘2008’, to commemorate the New Year. These notes also feature serial numbers with the last four digits matching.”

The BEP also mentioned that total production was limited to only 4,888 sets. It was left to collectors to recognize that this set was the only present source of Series 2003A $2 ‘H-C’ block notes and $2 ‘H-D’ block notes.

Subsequently H-D block notes were issued on a limited basis for the Year 2009 and Year 2010 $2 Single Notes. However, no other 2003A Series $2 H-C block notes beyond the 4,888 issued here have ever been released.

This bears repeating,“no other Series 2003A $2 H-C block notes beyond the 4,888 issued here have ever been released.”

This very low issuance is not common knowledge due in large part to the complete lack of mention in the Schwartz & Lindquist Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money.

If the 2003A $2 H-C note was referenced in the Standard Guide (for example, as the 2004-A $10 Atlanta Star is), it would likely demand a much higher premium.
