1995 $2 Premium Millennium Set - 20000796*
Price: $725
A tough and attractive 3-digit 1995 $2 Premium Set, these have become VERY difficult to find. Like its brethren, the float, or available marketplace inventory is exceedingly small (particularly for the 3-digit sets).
This $2 Premium Set includes 12 matching serial-numbered star notes, one from each of the the 12 Federal Reserve Districts. Illustrated below are the first 6 notes from this set.
Known for suffering from discoloration due to ‘cutting oil’ residue (see the bottom edge of the A20000796* below), this set, like most in this serial number range, does show some effects of this mysterious ailment. For better or worse it is all part of this series, but it does not change the fact that this is a very tough set to find. And if nothing else, it makes a good story and one day we’re confident the names of the conspirators behind these shenanigans will finally come to light.
Anyway, enough with the drama.
Remember, this collection was issued in the year 2000 and was designed to celebrate the Millennium (thus all the serial numbers begin with 2000). And maybe, just maybe, someone in their own way was trying to tell us, “Oil, keep your eye on oil.”
