1996 $20 - Premium Federal Reserve Set - 00000379A
Price: $1125
June 28, 1999 saw the release of the first Premium Sets in U.S. history. Until then, it was impossible to acquire a 12-note matching District Set, all with the same denomination and all from the first run of notes (distinguished by the ‘A’ suffix). In effect, the launch of these Sets turned a collector’s wildest dreams into reality.
Limited to just 2000 sets, the first set issued was Serial #00000301. Often overlooked is the fact that no complete sets were issued in the #401 to #500 range. It turns out these notes were used in other BEP Special Issues of the time, for example the $20 Deluxe Notes.
As such, the sets in the #300 range are not only the lowest ever offered, but remain an island unto themselves as to rarity and distinctiveness.
Along with being a member of the exclusive 300 Club, this set is also the 79th Premium Set ever issued, with subsequent $2, $5, $10, and $50 Premium Sets to follow. A Certificate of Authenticity, which is hand-numbered and included with each Set, confirms this.
For those seeking the exceptional, this Premium Set certainly fills the bill.
